Marsh Plant Community of Sanpoji Pond

The marsh plant community of Sampoji Pond grows in Sampoji Pond, a spring-fed pond of the Musashino Plateau. When it was designated as the national natural treasure in 1935, the pond was luxuriant with aquatic plants that grow in clean water. The spring of the pond dried out around 1970 and thus groundwater has been fed from a deep well, however, the water quality has gradually deteriorated and generated changes in the flora. Therefore conservation measures based on research have been implemented today.
